Programmer/Analyst

The Office or Research Information Systems is looking for a lead programmer who has strong leadership skills matched with hands-on programming experience.

Applicant will be the lead for one custom-developed software application and one commercial software package that directly support the day-to-day administration of the University’s research. Supervises two full-time .NET programmers in a team-based, collaborative work environment. Interfaces with customers at University Park and Hershey College of Medicine to develop requirements, facilitate testing, and plan rollout activities. Directs and participates in software development lifecycle to include planning, architecture, design, development, testing, deployment, and support.

Successful candidate will be required to balance leadership and programming tasks, sometimes focusing nearly 100% of their effort on programming when required by the project. This job will be filled as a level 2, level 3, or level 4, depending upon the successful candidate’s education and experience. Minimum educational and work-related experience requirements are: Associate’s degree plus two years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience in computer science or related field. Strong interpersonal skills and customer service attitude required. Programming experience in a collaborative team environment required.
Must demonstrate knowledge of object-oriented programming and relational databases. Experience in C#, Visual FoxPro, Microsoft SQL, JavaScript, XML, and Visual Studio/SourceSafe desired. Project leadership and supervisory experience desired. Experience in rich internet application development a plus. Experience with research compliance processes such as the Institutional Review Board and conflict of interest a plus. This is a fixed-term appointment funded for one year from date of hire with excellent possibility of re-funding.
