Research and Development Engineer

The Systems Analysis and Simulation (SAS) Engineering Department is seeking a candidate to support multiple long-term modeling projects. The SAS Division, developer and configuration manager of the Technology Requirements Model (TRM) suite of digital models and simulations supports multiple U.S. Naval and industrial sponsors in undersea warfare simulation and analysis.

Responsibilities include: model physical systems at the system and subsystem level using one or more programming languages; integrate models developed outside SAS into TRM; conduct TRM studies and perform detailed analysis of results; report results in written reports or presentations; assist in the execution of complex technical tasks; assist in planning and support of in-water data collections; and furnish regular status reports to internal and external interests. This job will be filled at the appropriate level, depending upon the successful candidate’s education and experience.

Minimum educational and work-related experience requirements are: Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Acoustics, Engineering Science, Mechanical Engineering, or Physics, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. A strong background in physics, mathematics and software development is required. Excellent organizational, oral and written communication skills are also required.
The successful candidate must be willing to travel, as needed. A familiarity with the following is preferred: FORTRAN, C, C++ languages; VMS and Linux operating systems; MathWorks, Inc. tools (e.g. MATLAB, Simulink); and Ada programming language. A background in acoustics, data reduction, signal processing, digital simulation and visualization technology is preferred. Candidate selected will be subject to a government security investigation.
