This SQL Database Administrator job, reporting to the Manager of Mid-Tier Infrastructure, will provide support for Penn State’s ANGEL course management system, as well as support for other enterprise application databases. The duties of this job include ensuring proper use and administration of database and related software on various hardware platforms.
The appropriate individual will maintain optimum software performance and security via proper DBMS configuration and application testing of software patches. The range of DBA duties include routine backup and recovery of databases, database administration, disaster recovery planning, data replication, physical database design, performance monitoring and tuning, DTS/SSIS package creation, VB/C# scripting, and efficient T-SQL coding.
This job must ensure system availability and reliability, and provide support to developers in the use of database and related software. The individual will participate in the evaluation and testing of new database products and provide 24/7 on-call support on a rotating basis. This job will be filled as a level 1 or level 2, depending upon the successful candidate’s education and experience. Minimum educational and work-related experience requirements are: Associate’s degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience with Microsoft SQL Server 2005, as well as excellent interpersonal and communication skills are required. Experience with Windows 2003 Advanced Server, Oracle, or IBM mainframes is a plus.
